Anybody that believes console exclusives are toxic also doesn’t appreciate the risk the consoles take on investing in such monumental projects.

The medium is richer because of boundary-pushing exclusives like Spider-Man 2 and Last of Us, and Zelda and Mario.

They raise the bar to show what is possible.

Consoles that don’t invest in exclusives don’t care about advancing the medium; they are just frustrated that money doesn’t translate automatically into great games. Ie half a billion dollars couldn’t make Halo Infinite as good as Halo 2.

Xbox fans conveniently forget that the Xbox itself only became relevant because of the exclusive prowess of Halo, Gears and eventually Forza. It was also the Call of Duty machine with exclusive content.

Yes it does if you take out Xbox. Stop trying to act like MS is doing some favors for people. They are hurting as a division and they are ultra desperate. If they were in PS’s or Nintendo’s position they would not consider this for a second but they are in last place by a large amount and it’s only getting worse for them so they are going for this last ditch effort. Only to the fanboys. I play Sony and Nintendo consoles for their exclusives and I play all my third party games and game pass games on Xbox. And that totally makes sense. I mean I love games of all kinds. I’ve played games for 30 years and I want all there to be great games no matter what console someone chooses. I just wish want video games to be a source of positivity and not so toxic. Games have guided me through some of the toughest times of my life. I’ve made so many friends even at jobs I’ve had through talking about games. I want nothing but the best for Xbox Sony and Nintendo. There are so many games I’d have never played had they not been on game pass. I’ll never forget booting up astros playroom and thinking “this is one of the best pack in games ever made,” or the first time I heard the music in halo combat evolved, or getting a Super Nintendo for Christmas and playing super Mario world for the first time.

From your other comments you seem to be an xbox hater. I've never been an xbox fan, ever. I hate their business practices. They truly lost all respect from me during the horrendous Don Mattrick years. They don't have a single compelling exclusive IP to me, Gears being the only one maybe I'd choose as a must play. I've also been a PlayStation gamer since 1996.

That being said, I hope enjoy the collapse of console gaming. The new (albeit interim) CEO is about to destroy Sony's advantage in exclusive, creative IP in favor of "educating" it's PlayStation Studios family on what it means to be a business.

That's my issue with xbox. My only issue. I hate their practices. Pushing cloud, pushing all digital, I know people praise it for bringing online but I hate that to. They brought with it broken games, gaccha, dumb ass dlc, etc

Apple and Google seem to de be doing quite fine despite that 99% of apps can be found on all phones.
I'm sure music would be better if the artist would lock their songs behind an exclusive music format that would require that you pay for their listening device.

Exclusives are what make worth owning one console over another.

Xbox is failing because of their lack of quality exclusives.

Sony and Nintendo are successful console manufacturers whereas MS is not precisely because Sony and Nintendo invest in making awesome games for their console investments.

Roughly five years ago, had you said that PlayStation would follow Xbox and start releasing games onto pc on a more regular cadence. You’d be attacked by the peanut gallery. But now that is a reality. PlayStation just had their first day and date drop on two different platforms. The bar has been slowly changing and I don’t see it stopping. Especially after Sony CEO just said that they are doubling down on different platforms. Many are in denial mode, just like they were five years ago.

I cannot see a downside to releasing on PC. I've been a PlayStation and PC gamer forever and there are games I prefer to play on console and games I prefer to play on PC. One doesn't harm the other, in fact the current model only widens the audience by releasing the big games on PC after.

I actually agree with you. I just think there are those on here that are so focused on the other guy. They fail to see it as an industry wide trend. If a company can make a bigger profit by catering to a larger audience outside of its core console group. Why not? Bigger profits and happier investors. Which should lead to lager investments in IPs, which translates to more variety and quality games. Hopefully.

Different by ps and pc probably mobile, but they aren't releasing single player games on xbox and switch. I've got no qualms with pc releases because I feel most who game on console don't give a rats ass about pc. You'd be surprised but there's alot of people out there that don't own a pc or a laptop.
