The Games Industry I Loved Is Dead

The beginning of the year is always a time to take stock of things and this year is no different. Regrettably, the only thing Moises Taveras can really bring themselves to take stock of is the inhumane toll the games and tech industry is taking on its workers.

Let's not forget what EA, Acti, Ubi has done as well. And I'm not going to pretend that Nintendo and Sony are perfect either, because they have made a lot of mistakes too. I take issue with some of their policies, such as not being able to back up my save files locally without homebrewing the console, which is dumb!

FinalFantasyFanatic110d ago

I can't believe they took that feature away, I used to do it all the time on the PS3.

porkChop110d ago

What? Literally every major publisher and every console manufacturer has played a part. Placing the blame on any one company is dumb af.

StormSnooper110d ago

Some more than others. Way more. To the point that not acknowledging it is dumb af.

I know right? I cant believe MS fired all those people at Epic Games, Volition, Ubisoft, EA, Unity, Embracer, Niantic, Amazon, etc

It’s especially crazy to think they even managed to fire people at Bungie, and closed down Pixel Opus and Sony Japan Studios… despite you know, being Sony owned studios. Truly mindblowing the kind of reach MS has…

-_-

StormSnooper108d ago

No they just keep pushing in all sorts of bad directions, scorching earth and buying up everything in sight, and not investing in new tech, and pumping their fanbase with PR so they can continue while not contributing to keeping gaming a vibrant environment. In the meantime, their fanbase is so filled with PR talk that they can’t see past their knees.

I hope their gaas only and walled garden service future collapses as hard as it seems it is. Maybe then they can act like a normal gaming company (although I doubt they ever will)

We can all agree that we are against companies announcing record profits yet laying off large number of its staff. CEO’s and executives get their bonuses but actual earners are fired

Gaming changed when it became way too big for suits to ignore the revenue. And now suits decide what’s best for gaming without really understanding the industry. Hedge fund companies want return on investment even at cost of future revenue and growth

So that’ll be £1000 with a zen 5 cpu and god know what graphics card

Good one

Also now they have promised cod on nintendos systems, the switch 2 might become VERY popular as a cod console with the kids, tethering it to their 5g phones, or the schools WiFi hehehe

chicken_in_the_corn11h ago

Don't believe it. The documents from the FTC case say 2028 and that holds more weight than this.

ThinkThink9h ago

I think they are going to drop a handheld next year and a next gen console the year after. I think it'll be one sku though at launch

Microsoft has a long ways to go when it comes to the gaming industry

ravens5223m ago

This is another thing MS is doing that I don't like. Like chill, foster your teams and try to make the beginning of some good series on the already powerful series x. They are trying to rush this gen. It's coming up on four years. So this gens life will be 5 years and on the 6th the next gen will be released? Stupid. Makes no sense especially seeing how long everyone has supported the Ps4 and Xbox 1. Annoying.

OtterX1m ago

Yea, they have had terrible 1st party support for 2 gens now. Why would anyone rush out to get this new XBox, especially when they plan to bring the games they do have to Playstation? I love PS5 + Switch + PC. I don't see the point of an XBox console at all.

I think the only type of games that can gets away with it would be sport games, having those sponsors ads on the side like on real life.

But don't put freaking Doritos ads in Star Wars or something, it breaks the immersion. If it is a pop-up ads, then big no.

Hofstaderman15h ago

EA can thoughtfully eff themselves.

Makersbreath214h ago

EA coming back for the crown of being perceived as the worst company in gaming.
