Cyberpunk 2077 Has Redeemed Itself, But We Shouldn't Forget Its Launch

Tom from We Game Daily writes "It’s hard to say for sure whether or not CD Projekt Red has learned its lesson. After all, earlier this year their VP of PR tried to claim that the backlash was because it “became a cool thing not to like it.” Placing the blame on reviewers and players is frankly reprehensible considering the deception that CD Projekt Red engaged in."

No not at all especially since the studio is trying to rewrite history, witch comments such as it wasn't that bad ,etc. No it was fking horrible and we shouldn't let then forget or rewrite. The game wasn't free and they let people spend 60 bucks on it, without a peep

With that said I enjoyed it, far as the story and stuff and would've bought it again physically with that dlc if they hadn't gave ps5 owners the middle finger and a download code for the dlc . Well fk you to

--Onilink--166d ago

I mean, regardless of whatever comments they may have done, CDPR had to spent millions of dollars (if not hundreds of millions, given it was basically all hands on deck for quite a while) just to re-release the game.
This also no doubt caused all their other projects to be pushed back as well.
And while the game may have still sold well, there is no doubt they still lost a significant number of potential sales with the whole debacle, especially with the whole PS delisting situation.

Add the general PR disaster management and probably a lot of stress and tension in the workplace while they fixed it…
There is no way any studio would like to go over that kind of situation again, especially when we know CDPR has the means to avoid it in the first place by just not committing publicly to a release date so they arent afraid to delay the game as many times as it takes

Not for me, like sure the GAME is far better. But I refuse to buy it after the constant gaslighting from the studio lead staring right into the camera and saying that the only issue is a few bugs in the last gen console version, that every other version is perfectly fine, and that we're all just exaggerating and not seeing what we're clearly seeing. And this wasn't just one occasion, they were tweeting, interviewing, and posting videos every week or 2 for months and months treating us all like idiots saying all the issues we're seeing are simply untrue. So no, they won't be getting my purchase on this game.

If they would have just taken accountability and fixed it I really would loved to grab it, but don't repeatedly treat me like an idiot and expect my money in return

DMgHalt166d ago

You should try NOT watching all those things and maybe you'd enjoy gaming more. While this doesn't give them a pass necessarily, they treat their customers like idiots because most of them ARE idiots. I try not to take things so personally as if they were specifically talking to YOU or ME.

Kinda hard to ignore when he was headlining with some new BS every week for months

"Redeemed - atone or make amends for (error or evil)."

No. They finally fixed a game, then charged for one DLC. They promised multiple expansions. They promised a great many things and finally patched in the metro system (that was in the trailer leading up to launch.)

During the disaster, two CEOs took home combined total of 6 million in bonuses, then they laid off their workers after their 6 day work weeks.

“What we mean by that is having teams that are built around our projects’ needs; teams that are more agile and more effective.” Translation: we want fewer people to work longer hours.

This resulted in their employees unionizing.

They are literally the definition of scumbags.

-Foxtrot167d ago (Edited 167d ago )

Nope.

The game is better sure but there's literally lists online of EVERYTHING they promised or made out this game would be but the finished product after the expansion and updates is still not as close to any of that.

If the final update and features the expansion brought into the game was there at launch people would still be disappointed, not by as much obviously but still a little let down to what they built it up to be.

Night City was supposed to be like no other, in fact in ended up just bland, shallow, almost lifeless at times.

We need to stop rewriting history and pretending they did nothing wrong.

Inverno167d ago

People don't care that they hyped up a game and released a completely different one because the 2.0 update made everything prettier and it runs well now. This is why publisher will continue to hype up incomplete and broken games, and mislead people with empty promises. "It's better now", "it redeemed itself" has been the standard throughout last Gen.

As much as I love the game now, I still have to agree with you. Hopefully they learned their lesson

Demetrius167d ago

Cd projekt gotta humble themselves and actually deliver with the sequel and also Witcher 4, they just bragged about how Witcher 4 will be smh doing that bs seems curse cause everytime a dev say some outrageous shhi bout how this will be a legendary game it falls short, see how other devs like insomniac, Santa Monica, naughty dog, metro series devs, and a few others don't brag like they make the ultimate games, instead they put in their work n let the fans see wassup

Hofstaderman167d ago

I can tell you one thing; I'm sure as hell not preordering the Witcher 4.

Cyberpunk 2077 Director On 95% Positive Steam Rating: "Never Thought I'd See It"

Cyberpunk 2077 has come a long way from being one of the worst games on the planet to being one of the best ones.

DustMan17d ago

I shelved it after a few hours in game at launch, glad I didn't refund it. One of the few games I've actually completed in the last year, and after finishing the campaigns I wanted to just jump back in from the start. They pulled a No Mans Sky and finished one of the best FPS in the last few years.

Games That Were Bad on Release, But Are Now Great

BLG writes, "Some of the most popular games have had a rough start, with some of them being downright unplayable.

Despite that, developers have managed to turn it around for them and make their game worth playing. Here are some games that had a rough start but were pretty great."

Good list..hoped to see Street Fighter 5 there..and it is.

Vits29d ago (Edited 29d ago )

Sea of Thieves... I'm not disagreeing that the game has improved in terms of content. But I feel that the most significant change between now and its release is actually the public perception. Nowadays, most people are aware that the game is a multiplayer PvP-focused experience first and foremost, and not "Black Flag made by Rare". Consequently, people dismissing the whole experience because the single-player aspect is lacking or the story is plain are much less common.

darthv7229d ago

Several years ago, i submitted an idea to Rare that would change up the mechanics of battling opponents in the game. whereby if you died in battle, you turned into a skeleton warrior and had to fight your way back to the land of the living. It was an interesting twist on respawning and would allow the player to experience both sides of a battle.

I keep hoping to see something like that get added to the game.

Kaii29d ago

They consider FO 76 & ME Andromeda to be great now 🤭

anast29d ago

Every game in the last 2 decades...

INMATEofARKHAM28d ago

It's sad that this quick retort is more often than not true... The industry's acceptance of release and patch has gone too far.

gunnerforlife28d ago

Days gone! By the end of the game I couldn't drop it down! I went around so many hours killing zombies! It was addictive by the end.

S2Killinit28d ago

That game was just plain good game. It didnt improve, it was just good.

gunnerforlife28d ago

I don't know, I got it abit late, and struggled for a few days, and then all of a sudden it just got good!!
