Amd has Risen.

Crazy there $500 variant beats intels $1050 cpu.

Seems we are in for some big competition in the cpu game.

crazychris41242641d ago

We definitely need the competition since Intel has gone crazy with the pricing these last couple years.

jonivtec2640d ago

I should have wait for upgrade my pc damn:(i buy a i7 6700k and can just barely overclock .Bad sillicon lotery

MyDietEqualsGames2640d ago

YES. I have decided to go full AMD for the next rig. But mainly because of Ryzen. You hear that AMD? You're going to get maybe 1k+ from me.

This is fantastic.

jerethdagryphon2640d ago

Amd fury 2 and there high end ryzen for me and 6rgb ram hopefully

StoneyYoshi2640d ago

already preordered a 1700 and a asus x370 motherboard!! :) so STOKED!

I have a god awful PC, I need a new one that will play every game 1080p 60fps and 4k 30 fps ultra for less than 1,000 bucks, any advice?

quent2640d ago

Get a AMD Ryzen 7 1700 that also come with a wraith rgb cooler and wait for Vega and see what pricing will be like from both teams.

Also for the mobo I've been looking at the Asus Prime B350-Plus, not the top tier of boards but it has everything you need for a 1K build

Kleptic2640d ago

Every game at 1080/60fps will come way easier and cheaper than 4k/30...

Still don't think $1k is a good budget for native 4k yet (these cpu helps with that, though), and development still isn't focused on 4k all that much.

to each their own...but personally 1080 on a ~24" monitor at a high framerate looks great to me, and is extremely easy to ring out of most games with even some dated parts. 4k looks better obviously, but the cost increases to a degree that i still find little value in it for the time being.

Stapleface2640d ago (Edited 2640d ago )

Going to be tough to hit 4k 30fps for 1k in every game. From Nvidia you will need a 1080, even that won't do 4k 30fps on every game out there. Not sure what AMD gpu would be the equivalent. But it's going to be easier to hit that mark, or at least get closer with these cheaper cpus.

TheOptimist2640d ago

My GTX 1070 mini ITX does 4k 40 fps with most games including Witcher 3, GTA V (With mods), Just Cause 3, Deus Ex Mankind Divided etc

Nathan_Hale532640d ago

1070 will do 4k 30fps and even 60fps easy for most games, and games like Witcher 3, with some settings off/turned down a tad. Mine has been able to play every game fine at 4k. But I much prefer framerate over a resolution.

ninsigma2640d ago

I'd say aim for 1440p rather than 4K and see how GPUs evolve over the next few years.

Nathan_Hale532640d ago

2k and 4k on a similar sized monitor is honestly hard to tell the difference. Plus, you can get a crazy 144hz 2k monitor.

specialguest2640d ago (Edited 2640d ago )

3440x1440 is the sweet spot right now. That's what I have. I run games mostly on max settings with a few minor tweaks for certain games at 55fps-90fps on a gtx 1080. Not all games support ultrawide, but there are fixes to force it.

Princess_Pilfer2640d ago

Yeah, buy used parts. Pick up an older i5 off ebay (2500k is a good bet) or a more recent I3 ____k (if it doesn't end in K you can't overclosck.) Get any decent mobo that will allow overclocking, and get a 1070.

In all honesty an RX 480 will almost always manage 4k/30 ultra, though with drops below that, so if you want to save money and are willing to risk having to fiddle with settings a bit (usually just turning AA down/off) pick up a 480 (or a 1060.)

Don't Skimp on your power supply. If it dies, it can take the whole computer with it. EVGAs super nova series is a good bet, rated silver or above.

EcoSos32640d ago (Edited 2640d ago )

Check ReviewTechUSA he made one for like $300 that played at 1080p, so if you follow some of his directions you may build one for that $1000 budget.

Cobra9512640d ago

You can get an Nvidia 6GB 1060 for as little as 200 bucks. If you're going to get a budget PC right now, that's what I would go with, regardless of CPU. If you want to go all AMD, wait a bit for Vega.

ABizzel12640d ago

Well this time to upgrade or buy a new PC will be this year.

I say wait until the inevitable price cuts start happening later this year and you'll score an amazing PC for around $600 - $800 depending on just how much power you want.

AMD is going to force Intel to drop prices on their 6000 series CPUs. You should be seeing High-end CPUs with mother boards for as low as $250. And if you want to save even more then then FX 8000 series (while old, and lagging down with Intel's old 2000 series) could be worth a possible buy since I've seen them as low as $100 - $150 with a solid motherboard thrown in.

The same for GPUs, the RX 480 and GTX 1000 series should all drop in price as newer GPUs launch later this year. The RX 480 and GTX 1060 should both drop below $199, which if you go with a FX 8350, puts your core (CPU + GPU + MB) at just $300. From there add RAM, SSD, HDD, PSU, Case, OS, Other and that's about another $300. Giving you a 1080p @ 60fps gaming PC for $600, and that's without rebates, Black Friday sales, etc...

Come Black Friday and with Rebates you'll probably be able to get a Rayzen CPU + 1070 (or RX 580) for about $400 for your core, which will keep your PC ready for the remainder of this console generation and next.

mynameisdon2640d ago

I'm definitely going to wait forbade drop in price, thx

ironicbunz2640d ago

you don't want 30 fps. Despite being impossible to get 4k for under $1000, you should aim for 1080p or 1440p

Princess_Pilfer2640d ago

I don't know who disagreed with me, but here is an RX480 15 game 4k/ultra average. It's 26fps.
http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecd...

Driver updates and board partner cards have actually improved performance since then, so *if* you have to change settings chances are you won't have to change them much (I only ever have to kill AA, which imo doesn't make much difference at native 4k anyways) to get a fairly consistent 4k/30. I'd rather play at 1080 of 1440p and 60fps most of the time, but if you want 4k/30 they can do it.

As I said, the reason I recommend a 1070 is because they're almost always going to manage 4k/30 with no drops below that, and will occasionally manage 4k/60. (I think DOOM in Vulkan is the only modern game where the 480 manages 4k 60)

Despite what people seem to be indicating, 4k resolution has basically no bearing on CPU load, so all you have to do is have a CPU that's capable of whatever performance target you're after at 1080p. *DO NOT* buy a FX series CPU. Yeah they're cheap, but for any game that requires high per-core performance they fall way behind. (I have one, I'm speaking from experience.) Spend the extra money on an older i5 or a newer i3 that you can overclock and you won't have that problem.

It might be worth waiting for VEGA to come out and maybe drive the price of the 1070 down or to be a better card if you're going that route, but there shouldn't be a significant performance gap (gaming wise) between the mid range i3s or i5s and anything new that comes out, especially if your target is 60fps, and older parts will be cheaper if you pick them up used, so that's the route I'd go.

Nathan_Hale532640d ago

Get the 1600x minimum AMD CPU, then either wait for Vega, or grab a gtx 1070.

Ooooh very interesting. I was considering a mobo/cpu upgrade later this year/next and this has thrown a curve ball.

I'd need to see a much bigger spread of benchmarks mind you (not just games too), often they can be very deceiving when it's just the odd game or two.

Great stuff if it delivers though. Finally some competition for Intel.

ninsigma2640d ago

Hopefully prices will come down now!

ARESWARLORD2640d ago

That's crazy talk what you should do is buy AMD now and support why the prices would come down in the first place they released a better product for half price

MyDietEqualsGames2640d ago

I'd wait a bit. It's looking good right now, but you're absolutely right. Need some more tests, but again, it is looking really good.

ARESWARLORD2640d ago (Edited 2640d ago )

There's no competition here over $1,000 to get an Intel product $500 to get an AMD product that beats it this would be complete and utter annihilation of Intel half the price for more performance God damn I wish I never bought the 6700 k

MyDietEqualsGames2640d ago

6700k is still a great CPU. If anything, this could make people dump their Intel's for something more powerful while coming out ahead, especially after reselling. I'm going to be paying attention to both stock prices too. Something positive in there somewhere.

TardcoreGamer2640d ago (Edited 2640d ago )

6700k is great. More cores dont equal better gaming performance a lot of the time especially in >4 threaded chips. Instructions Per Clock values(IPC) give a better take away on gaming performance. 6700k has one of the best IPCs and 8 processing threads. Youre good to go for the forseeable future. I wouldn't sweat it.

ShadowKnight2640d ago

I agree not just game performance but I want to see how it performs when your multitasking and doing all general stuff.

I did my build about six months ago and I use the i7 6700k I wish I waited for AMD considering I'm running Crossfire RX cards it could have been a full AMD build all I have to say is anybody who supports Intel when AMD has more powerful chips for half-price is nothing but a ridiculous Fanboy

one2thr2640d ago

Good thing I waited, I made a wish list that consist of Nvidia and intel parts. Now seeing what AMD has to offer, I might have to make it a complete AMD build.

1908-PB2640d ago

the i7 6800k is still no match for my 4790k so i dont think the AMD equivalent will be any better
