True, which is why my guess was Unreal Engine 4 but apparently that's not it
Maybe the engine created by Sony Santa Monica for God of War?

NewMonday2740d ago

betting on Horizon open world engine

bouzebbal2740d ago

How can they manage topping every show ??? Oh...

blitz06232740d ago

Really hope FFVII R makes an appearance

Obscure_Observer2740d ago

@NewMonday

Except there's not such thing as "Horizon open world engine". Horizon feat a modified KZ Shadowfall engine. Though beautiful, i don´t think the vivid and colorful KZ would fit the atmosphere of Death Stranding.

I know it´s a proprietary engine; but i think the fotorealistic RAD Engine 4.0 would be the AWESOME and the perfect fit for the "mood" and atmosphere of Kojima´s DS. It puzzles how early gen games like The Order and Ryse rise the bar early this gen and has yet to be beaten. ;)

Nitrowolf22740d ago

@obscure

Those colors are inserts of the developers, not the engine. The engine should be able to support any pallete of the color wheel and tone, its just GG made their game like that.

I dont think its the killzone engine though

Ju2740d ago (Edited 2736d ago )

Sony's only "own" engine is the PhyrEngine which comes with the PS SDK. It's probably based on that. It's free to use for PS developers and also runs on PCs.

OK - I have to take this back. So far Sony hasn't shared engines, but looks like Guerrilla became a engine provider...interesting.

Notellin2737d ago

@Obscure Well looks like you were really wrong. Horizon is running on a brand new engine called Decima and that's what Kojima picked.

I think I did suggested Death Stranding use Gran Turismo Sport game engine right?

UCForce2739d ago

That's a troll comment right there.

Mroc132739d ago

What exactly looks impressive? All I've seen was a trailer which was pretty strange to me. I've no idea what the game is about from that. I'm not trying to be an ass. Just want some info if you have any. Ive played all the Metal Gear games and love them and only own PS consoles just so you know

Vengeance11382740d ago

Using an engine developed by Sony pretty much solidifies the game's console exclusive status for all time. :)

_-EDMIX-_2740d ago

I'm not too sure about that.

Unless Sony owns the IP, pretty sure he can port it to a different engine if he must. Until we hear who owns what, I don't know if its time to say such a thing.

Fishy Fingers2740d ago

Yup. I imagine if they are using a Sony built engine that's primarily to reduce the development time more than cement the exclusivity (although also likely).

italiangamer2740d ago (Edited 2740d ago )

Sony owns the Death Stranding IP, look at 3:28

https://www.youtube.com/wat...

They own the IP and they are funding it, just like Helldivers and Everybody's Gone to the Rapture that they later on decided to release on PC.

DMZ_P2740d ago

not sure porting an already developed game to a different engine would be wise financially.

LP-Eleven2740d ago

Sony owns the IP, so console exclusivity is cemented.

_-EDMIX-_2740d ago (Edited 2740d ago )

@italiagamer- ?

That doesn't show anything saying Sony owns the IP.....

Sony trademarking something actually doesn't mean they legally own the IP. We've actually had this debate before with Bloodstained and I was the one that was wrong. Trademarking doesn't mean someone owns the IP.

"A trademark is a brand name. A trademark or service mark includes any word, name, symbol, device, or any combination, used or intended to be used to identify and distinguish the goods/services of one seller or provider from those of others, and to indicate the source of the goods/services"

ie Sony could own the name of Death Stranding or a logo identifying it. Many times someone owns a trademark if they are intending to provided marketing services or publishing duties (which often is marketing, distribution etc)

But owing this doesn't actually mean you own the very IP, that is something different and not to be confused with the Trademark.

Example. MS was publishing Mass Effect, they did not own the IP, but they did own the trademark.

EA bought the IP from Bioware, EA then bought the name ie "trademark" from MS at a later date. That was actually the only thing MS owned, they did not own the IP.

http://www.gamespot.com/art...

Now notice...this literally says nothing about MS, it was EA buying the IP from Bioware and Pandemic.....not MS.

So unless Sony comes out and states they own the trademark AND IP, its just the trademark for now. As to why it still has a PC version coming. Not to say Sony can't buy it later, only that I don't see any evidence that they've already bought the IP, only that they own the name.

Watch this video to see what a trademark actually is. An IP can be part of a trademark, but the IP is generally the whole thing, not merely part of it or just the name, image etc.

https://www.uspto.gov/trade...

http://www.trademarkia.com/...

(Look at the date filed. When we first heard this game announced, it was stated to have a PC version, Sony files for this on 7/18/2016) That only leads me to believe that they don't own the IP, but want to own publishing rights or the name and might be negotiating for the IP, like Everybody's Gone To The Rapture. Sony bought that IP before the game was done when they were only listed as the publishers at the time. They could be doing the same thing right now.

You can even publish a game, fund it and not own the IP or the trademark. Sony funded Heavy Rain, they do not own the IP nor the trademark, but to my understanding, they do own the IP to Beyond Two Souls and trademark for it.

gamerswin242740d ago

We all know with his relationship with Sony as of late and the way it was unveiled that's not happening. This will be a showboat, Sony exclusive like MGS4 was, like Bloodbourne is, etc...

Inzo2739d ago

Sony is in partnership with Kojima and Kojima productions itself not just for this game but for future projects as well and the fact that this game will use an internal engine is a clear indicator for exclusivity, at the most it goes to PC. Kojima makes no secret about his love for Playstation.

_-EDMIX-_2739d ago

@inzo- I know, my only point that I'm making that no one seems to want to confirm with any real evidence is that we have no real confirmation of Sony owning the intellectual property.

Owning the trademark to something is actually not the same as owning the actual intellectual property Microsoft owned the publishing name to Mass Effect and electronic Arts bought the intellectual property from Bioware which means Microsoft owned the publishing name to Mass Effect ie trademark but Bioware retained the intellectual property, thus electronic Arts was buying the property from Bioware not MS.

You guys actually know me as a huge PlayStation fan and an enormous Kojima fan I even gave Metal Gear Solid 5 last year my personal game of the year, but I'm also a realist I might want this to be true but I don't see any evidence like any real legal proof of Sony actually owning the intellectual property.

Could be true, but until anything official pops up, just an assumption (as to why no one even has a link to prove it).

Don't get me wrong I would be happy if it was true but I just don't like riding on guesses and assumptions. I won't try to exaggerate or fabricate anything just because I like Playstation and Kojima.

Give me a link to Sony saying they own the IP and let's celebrate.... until then.... assumption.

LP-Eleven2733d ago

Um, it's a Sony IP, buddy. There's no need for us to argue semantics. Being created on a 1st Party Sony Engine on top of that. I get what you're saying and know all about IP/Copyright/Trademark/Trade Secrets.

Trademark = Sony's, Engine = Sony's. Death Stranding is Sony's.

_-EDMIX-_2733d ago

@LP- Link?

You're still going on in assumption.

Sorry but trademark doesn't actually mean you own the entire intellectual property it simply means you own the name, logo etc.

Unless Tony said so or you have any real legal proof that they own the intellectual property and not simply just the name or trademark this is just an assumption.

Sorry but you can't forcefully dictates something as true just because you want it to be especially with no real evidence.

Trust me, I would want this to be true more than anyone but unless I have sufficient evidence I'm not going to just blindly assume.

Mind you that isn't even to say that they actually don't own the intellectual property it's merely saying we have zero evidence illegally to show that they actually do, you're just assuming.

I hope so, but u got a link?

Alexious2740d ago

Yes, it will stay a console exclusive but they already said it will be released on PC too. Which is fine for me.

Germany72740d ago

Thats not confirmed yet so you and your site need to take it easy with the port begging.

Alexious2740d ago

@ratchet8: Yes it is, in the very first press release. http://www.gamespot.com/art...

Of course, they didn't say when. Could be six months later, could be a year.

freshslicepizza2740d ago

@Ratchet8,
"Thats not confirmed yet so you and your site need to take it easy with the port begging."

what exactly is your problem? you seem upset if the game is available elsewhere like you have shares in playstation or something.

In a Q&A also issued by the company, as published by Medium, it was revealed that Sony is not investing in Kojima Productions, and the unnamed game in question "is planned to become available on PC" after its PS4 release.

Ding2739d ago (Edited 2739d ago )

.

starchild2739d ago

@Ratchet8

What a douchey comment. And it's not the first time you've made a comment like that. Being happy that other gamers don't get to play something comes from a place of pure fanboyism, which says a lot about your motivations.

Also full on PS4 Pro support

smashman982740d ago

The game is confirmed exclusive that's not even an issue

Officialxandr2740d ago

Sony/PlayStation is publishing Death Stranding, so it should be an exclusive.

KaiPow2740d ago

I'm hoping we can actually see some gameplay this time.

S2Killinit2740d ago

I so curious to see it in action.

Pancit_Canton2740d ago

It looks good. I'm sure this game would be made ground up from the PSPRO architecture. This, God of War, Spiderman and next Naughty Dog title would show the true capabilities of the PSPRO.

Alexious2740d ago

I don't have a PS4 right now but I'll have to get the Pro just for those titles. I would add Horizon: Zero Dawn and Detroit: Become Human to that list, by the way.

WeAreLegion2739d ago

Don't forget Days Gone. Looks phenomenal on the Pro.

Can FSR 3 frame generation deliver the 120fps dream on PS5 and Xbox?

Frame generation technology has arrived on consoles, amplifying frame-rates and potentially transforming experiences.

purple1011d 12h ago

adds between 8.3-15.3 milliseconds of latency on the game they tested, - no thanks

darksky18h ago

Base latency is 130.8ms and frame gen takes that up to 139.1ms. A 7% increase in latency is hardly a deal breaker.

Zenzuu18h ago

That's hardly a deal breaker and not really noticeable. Even the folks at Digital Foundry said so as well.

darthv721d 12h ago

Impressive results... sadly I don't have a 120hz display. I was thinking this technique could increase fps on any game that supports it regardless of the display.

purple1011d 11h ago (Edited 1d 11h ago )

I have a vrr telly in the lounge,

On another point, what if it were the other way around where the developer aims for higher fps, then used something like pssr to make the resolution higher, that might be better?

Any which way, PS5 pro sure looks interesting now, being they have already doubled frame rate, with JUST just this fsr3.0

sagapo16h ago

It’s up to dev’s to implement FSR 3 support tho but most probably will I guess (hope).

Eonjay3h ago

Yes it would increase the framerate but it would add more noticeable latency. The impact of latency goes down the more natural frames produced. So a monitor that can push bast 60 will naturally allow the game to operate much smoother. Add VRR to this and now you have a much more enjoyable experience.

BlackDoomAx18h ago

Can it deliver the 60fps dream?

purple1019h ago(Edited 9h ago)

no, it delivers approx 80fps.

which is why I say why not target 60fps with this new tech and use the upscaling pssr, (Sonys version of Nvidia's DLSS, that seems so popular in the pc realm)

then we have best of both, better believe ps5pro will be doing all the above.

andy8518h ago

Now I've extensively tried it I'm not too fussed about 120 fps. Give me a locked 60 and more details and I'm more than happy

anast13h ago(Edited 13h ago)

120 is a bit slow. My eyes can't look at anything less than 260fps.
