The PS4 Neo Exists, and will Release in October 2016 (Rumor)

French video game distributor Innelec Multimedia posted its financial results yesterday and they included a very interesting detail spotted by French site Otaxou.

But it's referring to the 2016/2017 fiscal year, which started April 1st 2016. So they're projecting the neo to release between 4/16 and 10/16

I'd like to point out that nowhere has it been confirmed that it will run games at a higher resolution or framerate. Only that it will have features. Which to me tells me it's going to be 4k video ready and maybe a few other bells and whistles while being slim. That's my take on it.

It has been said that games wont get the full benefit without a patch and that would be up to the developer. Its very likely fps will stay more solid on the new hardware regardless of a patch, but it wont go past the 30 fps lock without a patch.

Do you not get it, these rumors started as an Xbox upgradable console. hype for that died so they switched to upgraded ps4, shit ton of ruthless and ethically challenged reported dove on it like hotcakes. This isnt happening this year. it would be suicide to release a better console of one that is already selling where there is no need for it. and i say need, because it's only gamers who want it. no developer said they need the upgraded console. not even bringing up the stupid release date spec for october... ya thats smart. lets take over 3 years developing and marketing the PSVR at 400$ only to have it sit beside a new Console (that has had no marketing) at 500-600$. if it was real and supported 4k playback they would have started marketing it as an option for the Playstaion Vue and new 4k streaming service. but nothing has come out, just like this rumor and conosole. both are nothing.

Someone said Uncharted 4 proves the PS4 has power. Lets be real, all devs are not on Naughty Dogs level, nor do devs put the same level of care in their games, so the point is moot. ND is the exception not the rule.

Plus Uncharted 4 only runs at 30 FPS in SP, and MP is only 900p. To me that proves the PS4 does NOT have the power, if It did it would look as good as it does now but be a full 1080p AND 60 FPS for both MP and SP. Neo would make that possible. Simple logic shows the Neo IS needed.

You seem to think that we all want 1080p60fps. personally. ill keep Uncharted at 30fps as 60 will probably ruin the experience.

ND pushed graphics and FPS for Single player, and dropped to 900P (it hurts the eyes i know /s) to get 60fps for MP. thats completely fine. because all honesty, unless you're playing on likle a 100 inch projector. you cant tell the difference between 900p-1080p.

I have to laugh at this statement that players are making now. Neo is going to be a great upgrade for open world games that we get in the future and ones that are already released. Guys forget that Uncharted 4 is linear and not only that, they had to drop the fps to 30, just so it would run smooth. So when Neo arrives, I bet we get an update for Uncharted 4, and possibly 60fps. Which Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection runs at 60fps and really nice. Not saying U4 is bad, I love the game so far. But should be an upgrade with Neo I'm sure.

Linear games are way different from open world games. We need Neo for open world games pretty bad right now. Games like Just Cause 3 are a train wreck framerate wise at the moment with an update not in sight at all.......except Neo maybe. It will help linear games as well. To me though linear games are doing pretty good anyways at the moment, hardly any issues. Its the open world games that are mainly having problems with that current PS4 hardware.

The only difference between open world and linear is the scope of what one can do. On a technical level, UC4 is up there with any open world game in terms world scope, but what one can do in that world is limited due to design, and the other stuff that's done in open world games doesn't require an upgrade from what we have now. Open world games benefit more from more memory, and the graphics ability of the game is rather moot to their overall design.

Yeah because a good percentage of long time Sony supporters will feel pretty ripped off. It's like hearing news of restructuring 10:1 stock after you made a significant investment. I have no doubt that Microsoft sees a negligible upgrade by Sony mid console life as an opportunity to release something WILDY more powerful while Sony is forced to support their blunder not to totally screw everyone who bought it and hurt their once leading brand.

I only upgrade a phone every 2-3 years when something much better comes out, otherwise it's marginal, just like the NEO; but that's just the way I buy. We're not talking about basic everyday tech here. The strength of extended console life gave developers the chance to really make the games shine over time. Consoles are often the center piece of a home entertainment center that costs near $600 with accessories, not $150-$200 bucks every 1-1.5 year with a contract extension for an everyday necessity. It is not the first time a company has made a bad decision in support of it's customers, won't be the last.

I am surprised at the responses when someone disagrees with these rumored business decisions. Public response is what made Microsoft change all the bad decisions they made when Xbox One was first announced. Always online, games linked to accounts which would have hurt the used game market, etc. I'm looking forward to see what Sony officially comes out with, there's has been a lot of talk of this new system either way.

I guess you would be butthurt if you bought a PC graphics card to find they released a better one in a year! I would totally see your point if the added hardware was only meant for 4K media to push their TV's. F Sony for breaking the unique product life cycle and longevity of value consoles provided. It wasn't enough we pay $60 for games, $50 for accessories and $50 a year on subscriptions to play online. Throughout the life of your console, you were paying close to $800 on just hardware and subscription fees, not to mention the games. Now they will tempt developers to use the extra power instead of innovate and learn the hardware and leave the former flagship PS4 model, 40 million of us own, as a throwback. Diesel PC's with good controller support and HDMI runs are just getting more and more attractive. This NEO system if even true cannot even push true 4K graphics outside of indie games, it's a joke and the extra juice available to the much smaller and fragmented base who do decide to hand over their cash to Sony will only diminish their original investment. PS4 will be diminished because there will be less of a challenge or need to optimize which has always been a consoles strength.

Man the consumers are definitely split. Some want it, others hate it's coming after already buying a PS4. I'm in between. It sucks that I gotta buy one again to have the beat PS4 but then again I moved to London from Spain to purposely find a job and be able to afford my personal things so now I don't mind. For those that can sell theirs and afford to get another one (whatever you sell yours or not) it's awesome that the option exists instead of having to wait for PS5 for an improvement.

The vast majority of hardcore Sony gamers are going to be on board with this. There isn't much convincing there. However, it will be interesting to see how younger gamers who just got the PS4 and of course casual gamers (the majority of the console demographic) react to having a new system show up that they may not of even heard of at the time of release. I also see consumers confused at potentially two different PS consoles come Christmas season. The PS4 has sold amazingly well so I don't see how an upgrade could help in that regard. If anything I do see a chance of an upgrade hurting the bottom line. This is a risky move that Sony didn't even need to make this quickly (If it even does happen later this year). Time will tell but if Sony follows through this may hurt them more than help. We shall see.

If sony and ms do this they are setting bad trend and i will never buy a console at launch again, i might even just strictly use my pc for gaming. Some of you seem to think this is good but they are going to milk this forever if people accept buying a upgraded console just 3 years into a generation.
