Early Xbox One user shows the Boot-up, Set-up and Dashboard in his videos

Xbox One was reportedly shipped to about 150 lucky users before the official release date. These 150 users managed to get their hands on an Xbox One but wont be able to utilize its online functions until the official release date. They will be temporarily banned to restrict them from accessing the Live features of Xbox One.

Another set of videos were posted on YouTube of one such lucky user, who got his Xbox One early. He shows us the setup, dashboard, boot animation along with his (temporary) console banned message in these videos.

Inb4 copyright strike :p. Hot damn that suspend/resume is damn fast & awesome :)

RyuCloudStrife3856d ago

Since they cannot download the update these people have a useless console until the 22nd or so....

Battlefieldlover3856d ago (Edited 3856d ago )

Moonlight says the patch is up. Took him 2-3 minutes to download it.

Edit: didn't disagree just so ya know XD

RyuCloudStrife3856d ago

the patch is up but they cannot download it. Their console is banned from online.

monkey nuts3856d ago

I thought the video froze in the bottom clip. 40 seconds of nothing until he had control. Damn. I'd imagine the patch would probably address this though, they've been full throttle in all fairness to them. Still, by the time I get one (titanfall) I'm guessing the whole experience will be more streamlined/ smoother. As all three console makers continuously tweak and improve their hardware as time progresses.

sinjonezp3856d ago (Edited 3856d ago )

Come on man!! A RCA? I bought a RCA; that thing died in three months. How are you going to offend the Xbox one with a rca. You have to come with the Samsung, sony, or new Panasonic's with the best black levels. Anyway, like the ui . I have a windows phone and the metro is very fast and cannot wait to get one for my 60inch led.

Edit: sucks about the ban. Microsoft on some BS. Here you have happy customers who throughout all the bs since the unveiling of the system, still!! Shelled out over 500 dollars for your product, you ban them. Way to go MS.

The Captain3856d ago (Edited 3856d ago )

Sucks that MS does this to paying consumers who are not at fault, but this video sucks. I think we are going to see many of these and people trying to get free stuff like @Moonlightswami did.

Wizziokid3856d ago

It's no surprise really, have we not came to accept that this is what MS does, just like when the banned people for playing legit early copies of GTA V. They just love to ban people.

xPhearR3dx3856d ago

Doing what exactly? They restricted online access until release date. They should be happy they even got it early and are able to play some games while they wait for the 22nd.

RyuCloudStrife3856d ago

They aren't able to play unless they download the update for which you OBVIOUSLY NEED to go online.

I guess only Moonlightswami was lucky enough to go online for 6 hours.

bleedsoe9mm3856d ago

and if they day 1 update fixes bugs or game or console crashes , how quickly would the video of a crash get spread around , if ms is still working on the os or firmware and needs until the 22 to be ready

JackISbacK3856d ago

did sony want their people to expose their console to people before release ,no nobody wants that that would be realy annoying to any compant to do that and his console is banned tempopraly and he can play single player games but is watch by ms so that he does not expose the game ,and yeaqh the first guy was able to update and was also able to play online but he bashed himself but now he is bennifeted ,he was alucky bastard

Eonjay3856d ago

Except Sony already said it wont ban any consoles for being early so that argument is null. But yes, my guess would be that Microsoft doesn't want it to be shown before its ready.

3856d ago
Saviour3856d ago (Edited 3856d ago )

lol people believe wat sony says, cool.

H0RSE3856d ago

So it's not the consumers fault if they decide to not only use a device before it is officially released, but post pics and vids online for others to see?

KrisButtar3856d ago (Edited 3856d ago )

When he turned the X1 on I and went through the steps I didn't see him accepting any TOS before he was banned.

It sucks though as if he got his system early he likely has games for it as well. All of which can not be used because his system is banned even before the day one update. So his X1 can't do sh*t

Edit: I want to see people using it out in the wild and not in a controlled environment that the media uses. Same goes with the PS4 as well.

xPhearR3dx3856d ago (Edited 3856d ago )

You can still play games without the update. The guy who got his Xbox first and leaked all that stuff was playing COD after he was banned.

Edit:

Did you watch both videos? The second video shows the initial start up. Meaning the first time you power on the Xbox. He got the console ban screen. The second video shows him on the dashboard. So he obviously was able to update the system and can now play games, just not online.

DarkLordMalik3856d ago

He was able to play the games because he already updated to the Day 1 Dashboard update.

KrisButtar3856d ago (Edited 3856d ago )

You need the update to play games. The 1st guy got his day one update so he can play games offline.

Edit: here some links saying you need the update or the XB1 can't do sh*t

@DarkLordMalik we don't know if that the final update or a early version the are just using for testing , no one except ms employees was suppose to be able to access it

@fattyuk i thought the sony contest was play the ps4 early ?

FITgamer3856d ago

Immediately on start up you have to download the patch. If you don't you aren't permitted to go any further. All of videos of the people showing the dashboard have already downloaded the patch. I'm not sure why this is so hard for people to understand. I mean how would you get banned before you even connected the system to the network?

bleedsoe9mm3856d ago (Edited 3856d ago )

didn't people win early ps4's from contests , where are those video's?????
must have made them sign nondisclosure agreements .
what is sony hiding ?
answer is probably nothing , they just want to control the message just like ms .

Red3856d ago

stop being rational or you'll be disagreed into oblivion!!!!!!!!

fattyuk3856d ago

Yep they won consoles in contests.

They didnt actually receive them on the spot. they get them on release day.

Sitdown3856d ago

Yeah, what happened to the Taco Bell people..

colonel1793856d ago

Well they are signing NDAs, unlike these people who got their Xbox early. Since they are not signing anything, Microsoft shouldn't be allowed to ban their consoles. They are not even accepting any TOS since, according to the video, there is not even a TOS before they get banned.

Microsoft should be sued. I don't get why people put up with Microsoft's crap (or any other company) when it's a paid product.

xPhearR3dx3856d ago

They're not being banned. They're being temporarily restricted from online access until release date. Trying to sue them would only cause that person embarrassment.

colonel1793856d ago

Ok, at the very least, they should let them download the day one patch so that they are able to play OFFLINE. Is that really much to ask from Microsoft? Guess it is!..

xPhearR3dx3856d ago

Did you not watch both videos? He showed the first time start up. Then the top video shows him at the dashboard but being banned. If he wasn't able to download the patch, he wouldn't have made it to the dashboard.

insomnium23856d ago

xPhearR3dx

What makes you think he wouldn't get to the dashboard without the patch? I thought you could watch BD movies on the thing even in it's original form with DRM and all and after 24 hours and everything. That it would only prevent gameplay?

What am I missing here?

Blackdeath_6633856d ago

they get the console on release day genius i thought that much was pretty obvious.

FITgamer3856d ago

The contest ended today, so they probably won't have the consoles until November 12th at the earliest.

saikorican3856d ago

The ps4's from the contest aren't even given out until the 12th so there's your explanation. There is no NDA signed there, just as there was no NDA signed when this man received an XOne early by mistake.

SITH3855d ago

JackISbacK3856d ago

yeah his cosole is banned to connect online but atleast he can playoffline and can have good time playing single player games and yeah he will be one of the first to play xbox one exclusive what the F**k man i also want one .

KrisButtar3856d ago (Edited 3856d ago )

The problem I have is they can not even play single player games without the update. He was banned before he could get the update. He didn't sign a NDA or a TOS agreement going for the video either.

It does matter if it is Microsoft or Sony or any other company, what they are doing is wrong.

Edit: Think about it, For example have you ever heard of Apple for example banning people from iTunes for getting their newest iPhone early. Or even the phone companies not allowing you to make calls because you got the new phone early.

JackISbacK3856d ago

but buddy go to other sites they are saing they can play sp on xbone and the video above also showas that his xbone is working because he was able to reach on dashboard.

KrisButtar3856d ago (Edited 3856d ago )

Article from yesterday Stating you need to update to play games(single player, online, offline or otherwise)

http://www.engadget.com/201...

"Imagine it's November 22nd: You've got your shiny new Xbox One from the local games merchant, you've got it home, and it's time to video game. Aw shucks, the internet is out! But that's okay, as you've got yourself a physical game disc ready to go. Sadly, it looks like you've got yourself a $500 paperweight until your ISP comes back online. "Functionally, you will be able to do very little without taking the day one update," Microsoft senior director of product management Albert Penello told Engadget in a recent interview. We posed just such a scenario to him, and asked what we could do with an Xbox One out of the box. "Nothing. You need the Day One update," he said."

They banned this user before they could even download the update which means they have a $500 paperweight.

I can not think of any other product(game console or not) other than the XB1, that if you got it early you can't use it. Can you?

Edit: I have more links above in another post that all say the same thing, you need the update to play games, single player or otherwise

10 Biggest Xbox Mistakes of All Time (So Far)

The Xbox brand has done a lot of good over the years, but their various blunders are pretty wild to look back on in their magnitude.

piroh8d ago (Edited 8d ago )

Ironically number 9 can save them at this point (releasing games on multiple platforms)

ChasterMies7d ago

By “save them” you mean make more profit for Microsoft. Xbox will still be a dying hardware platform.

OtterX7d ago

You could add the naming scheme for the consoles, it just confuses customers. I know they wanted to avoid traditional numbering bc it would always be lower than their competitor, but this whole 360 then One then Series thing is confusing af. Imagine a Soccer Mom trying to figure this stuff out. I still mistakenly call the Series X the One from time to time on accident.

RNTody7d ago

Don't forget about the Xbox One, Xbox One X and Xbox Series X! Good luck to Soccer moms around the world.

S2Killinit7d ago (Edited 7d ago )

They did that on purpose to confuse and direct attention away from the generational numbering.

MS doesn’t like reminding people that they joined the industry after others had already been involved in gaming.

For instance, they called the xbox “360” to combat PlayStation “3” because they wanted to seem like “more” than “3”, so instead of xbox 2, they opted for xbox 360. Also this had the additional benefit of selling consoles to uninformed parents who might purchase a “360” instead of a “3” by mistake, or because they thought 360 was more than 3. Kind of a disingenuous move.

They have been continuing with their confusing naming patterns for pretty much the same reasons. Frankly, it fits with who and what they are as a brand.

FinalFantasyFanatic6d ago

I can understand their reasoning, but whoever came up with that naming scheme should be fired, bad naming schemes have killed consoles (I'm pretty sure it was the major reason for the downfall of the WiiU). They should have had unqiue names like Nintendo and Sega have had for their consoles, far less confusing for the consumer.

rob-GP3d ago

@FinalFantasyFanatic "They should have had unqiue names like Nintendo..."

lol, you mean:

NES, SNES
GameBoy, GameBoy Advanced, GameBoy Colour, GameBoy SP
DS, DSi, DSXL
3DS, 3DS XL, New 3DS, New 3DS XL
Wii, Wii U
Switch, Switch OLED

Phil Spencer is the worst that has happened to Xbox.
They built a respectable brand up to Xbox one. Then this guy took over and things became a joke

Reaper22_7d ago

He still has his job. Something you can't say about Jim Ryan.

Cacabunga7d ago

Both bad execs. One is on job and one thankfully retired.

FinalFantasyFanatic6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

I didn't like either person, both people damaged their respective brands and produced worse outcomes, but Phil did save the Xbox brand from being retired by Microsoft. Although in hindsight, he should have just let it die, rather than languish in limbo like it is now.

Rainbowcookie6d ago

Yeah but the one that was "bad" didn't even affect sales.

bunt-custardly7d ago

Phil Spencer was also on the team back when 360 was around, alongside Shane Kim, Peter Moore etc. I think the damage that did the most harm was the Don Mattrick "Always Online" console (ahead of its time basically). They handed Sony and Nintendo a free-pass when that was revealed. It went downhill from there. Then the corporate machine went into full swing to try and recover. They have to a degree as a games company for the masses, and less so for the core gamer. Outside USA, the Xbox brand does not sell as well as Japanese based consoles (citation needed).

Cacabunga7d ago

Want a decision maker. The always online and TV plans was a disaster yes, but they caught up by announcing 1st party games that gamers actually kept the hype going.. until this moron took over and introduced the PC day one release.. e all know where that ended..

S2Killinit7d ago

I dont think they were ever a respectable brand, not since the beginning, when their goal was never to be involved and share in the gaming space. I think the OG xbox was an exception because MS as a brand was still getting its foot in and so the people behind that were people of the gaming industry.

FinalFantasyFanatic6d ago

The 360 was the brand in its prime though, everything went downhill towards the end of that generation. Its staple games like Halo, Forza and Gears are what kept the console relevant and afloat for so long.

MaximusPrime_7d ago

Really good video.

I remember the days with RRoD was big news on here, N4G.

Microsoft had it turbulence number of years.

Looking at the success of Sea of Thieves despite being 6 years old, time to release Halo, Forza horizon 4 & 5 on PS5. It'll help their revenue

shinoff21837d ago (Edited 7d ago )

2 of the 4 games they did already sold really well. So it's definitely going down. Idk about halo or forza but I feel those studios they've bought in the last 5 years, their coming

ChasterMies7d ago

I found this video painful to watch. Can someone list them out?

Top 10 for me from are:
1. 2013 reveal presentation
2. Bundling Kinect 2 with Xbox One
3. RRoD or why rushing to market with hardware is always a bad idea.
4. Buying studios only to close them.
5. Ads on the Home Screen
6. Letting Halo die.
7. Letting Geard of War die.
8. Every console name
9. Charging for Xbox Live on Xbox 360 when Sony let PS3 players play online for free.
10. Cancelling release of OG Xbox games after the Xbox 360 launched.

Microsoft to Add Copilot AI to Video Games

....you know it takes people to program the AI.... right? It isnt like it is sentient. We haven't reach skynet level of situation or anywhere close to the matrix just yet.

That's next Thursday.

Einhander197211d ago (Edited 11d ago )

It takes a people to program the AI then that AI is used for who knows how many games eliminating countless jobs which only grows as AI is used for more and more game creation functions.

What you're saying is so ridiculously short sighted and truly larking any kind of understanding and foresight.

Why all the hate? Im actually excited about this! Always wanted this kind of immersion, and an AI companion with me all the time helping me out knowing the status of my skills/inventory/progress and giving me tips on the best approach or how to craft something specific is game changing for the industry.

Hate all you want about AI, but this is just the start and I can see the potential already. You wont be complaining in the next 5-10 years about this, but rather complain if a game hasn’t implemented it.

MrDead11d ago

Yes we can't wait for the work of others to be used without the need to pay them so that MS can profit even more from the people they fire.

I_am_Batman11d ago (Edited 11d ago )

There is no chance I'd ever use something like this, especially if it's not part of the core game design, but a layer on top of it. It's way too much handholding. Many games already feel like busy work, because they don't let the player figure things out on their own. Having a real-time interactive guide defeats the purpose of playing the game in the first place in my opinion.

If this were to become the standard like you predict, we'll see more and more video games get away with bad design, because people will just be used to ask for help from the AI companion anyway.

Number1TailzFan11d ago

Well Nintendo don't need this with some of their games these days, with invincible characters, items, easy bosses etc.. they do the hand holding built in

helicoptergirl11d ago

Takes "hand holding" in games to a whole new level.
