The reported new features are as follows:

A mode for sitting or standing

Able to track players with a height of only one meter

Better detection of a players hand state

Tracking of six people up from just two

An improved field of view for a much larger play space

Higher resolution and quality RGB stream

Depth stream is much higher resolution which in turn enables resolve of much smaller objects, separate objects much better and able to capture depth curvature around edges much better

Active infrared enables tracking in low or no light

Latency has been improved by 33ms

USB 3.0

Frame rate up from 15fps to 30fps

Resolution up from 640×480 to 1920×1080

It is reported that the device will go on sale for around $99

Does not sound like a leak but more like educated guesses.

Oh well if true this debunks the leaked documents where Kinect is suppose to be integrated into the 720 " Always on ALways Connected"

Lets face it folks we dont know jack about the 720 and MS has done a great job on keeping it a secret...I mean no leak image of the controller, new Kinect or the system - remember the PS4 controller got leaked but we cannot get nothing but some documents about the 720 that were probably made up by some troll in his moms basement.

Edit - StrongMan what are you about, where did I say anything about leaks being good - I stated that this sounds like educated guesses rather than leaks.

Leaks and rumors should be taken as just and until MS confirms something we should just wait until ES but I know you want the always on always connected rumor to be true so you can sleep better at night.

stage884080d ago

I'm sure the PS3 controller was a controlled leak.
Look how much hype it bought for the Playstation Meeting.

MysticStrummer4080d ago

"Oh well if true this debunks the leaked documents where Kinect is suppose to be integrated into the 720 " Always on ALways Connected"

No it really doesn't. It shows that Kinect 2.0 will be available separately in case people want it on their PC.

@stage88
I'm sure nearly EVERY leak is a "controlled" leak.
I'm already where I replace the word "leak" with "tease" when I see it in headlines.

KwietStorm_BLM4080d ago (Edited 4080d ago )

"Lets face it folks we dont know jack about the 720 and MS has done a great job on keeping it a secret.."

Right. Except if it turns out the rumors are true, then we actually do know jack about the Xbox. You can't have it both ways, because like you just said, we don't know. It wouldn't be unreasonable to think the more coherent leaks are true, however, based on the accuracy of PS4 leaks from the same sources. The Dualshock 4 was partially leaked, yes, but we still don't know what the PS4 looks like, and we don't know who leaked the controller. Its not uncommon for manufacturers in the tech world to leak things themselves, to get free press and "user" feedback.

GameNameFame4080d ago (Edited 4080d ago )

720 Spec was not made up by some fanboy. MS's entire server was hacked. and MS had him arrested. you are just denying cause it is extremely weak. It was 100 page document in excruciating detail on how weak it is.

I love how you praise MS being tight lipped and secure.

U do realize their dev console went on sales on EBAY.. right? hahah

BattleAxe4080d ago

All I have to say about this is YUCK!

dcbronco4080d ago

@GameNameFame

One of the things mention SuperDAE mentioned was the Durango had a better design. If you trust what he leaked then you believe the 720 is better than the PS4 then?

vet_medic4080d ago (Edited 4080d ago )

We have plenty of leaks from vgleaks and their news were mostly spot on, other than 8gig for ps4 but even internal devs didnt know that, so its hard to believe that everything they reported on 720 is wrong.

So yes, we know quite a bit.

NewMonday4080d ago

not a KINECT fan but technically this a good improvement, the most important things here:

* Depth stream is much higher resolution
* Active infrared enables tracking in low/no light
* Latency has been improved by 33ms
* Frame rate up from 15fps to 30fps(<<this)
* Resolution up from 640×480 to 1920×1080

mix this up with AR glasses and you may get a new Wii like craze.

ziggurcat4079d ago

"Oh well if true this debunks the leaked documents where Kinect is suppose to be integrated into the 720 " Always on ALways Connected""

rumours are rumours, obviously - i don't take any rumour as anything until the info comes from the horse's mouth.

but this is MS we're talking about... (and i'm being facetious here) they could very well charge you extra for kinect 2.0 by selling it as a separate peripheral even if it might be required to use the next xbox.

frankly, i would be very shocked if that rumour turned out to be true - it just seems a little too far fetched.

DeadlyFire4079d ago

Pretty sure Sony wanted people to see their prototype PS4 controller early enough to swap it back to original design if they had to do so. They tried doing a new controller for PS3 and reaction was so bad they shifted back to Dual shock/Sixaxis design.

This Kinect improvement means games at 30fps for Kinect. Why would they even market it with 15 fps? Might actually look like an okay device in motion then.

Buff10444079d ago

Wow 47 disagrees for just stating what was reported. N4G a Sony fan website? Nah.

Gamer19824079d ago

That cam has the specs of a cam thats priced around £00 right now I seriously cannot see them being able to sell as low as £99/$99.. Those are either seriously wrong specs or the wrong price also makes me think if it does come with every console its gonna cost quite a bit more than the ps4 unless they cut back hardware. Kinect 2.0 could be what wins PS4 the next gen war..

GameNameFame4079d ago

When did i say i trust SuperDAE?

I trust the 100 page detailed documents that he hacked and was confirmed by the "inside sources" from IGN, EuroGamer Digital Foundry, Kotaku and etc.

Last time he checked he didnt even have as much as he had on PS4 as he did on 720.

Btw, Digital Foundry did a comparison. They say PS4 is better design. Now stop trying to deny it and make stuff up.

Strongman and mysticstrummer, lol, always here to provide there in-depth analysis to anything Xbox related.

Gildarts4080d ago

if this is true then it would be a big mistake. it means kinect will not be bundled with the 720. which means not everyone will have it. Which means developers will have to make games seperately for the kinect owners. Which means less developer support. If the kinect is always there developers can always make use of it without worrying about it not being there, resulting in unique experiences only found on Xbox 720. Microsoft knows this. It might be the 720's killer app because it will be part of the 720 experience not just some optional pheripheral.

NeoTribe4079d ago

Kinect sucked this gen and will suck next gen. Making fps and resolution better isnt gonna save a boring gimmick. If thats the 720 experience count me out.

oof464079d ago

No, they sell it separately so when your kinect red rings, you can buy a new one.

"It is reported that the device will go on sale for around $99"

This part makes me doubt this whole leak, it's far more likely that MS will bundle Kinect 2 in with xbox 3. If they want Kinect to get support from devs other than 1st party they will have to be certain that their entire userbase has one. Not sure if that's as smart a move as it seems because putting an extra $99 on top of a new console's price could be bad for sales.

Godmars2904080d ago

For one thing you might be able to use it with the 360, for another if its true you need one for Xbox3, it has to be connected, you'll need to buy another should the first break.

GalacticEmpire4080d ago

You're right, I didn't think it through all that well.

My point about the price bumping still stands. Kinect is a bit of a double edged sword in that respect, both attracting the casual gamers MS want so desperately to court but, at the same time, inflating the price of Xbox 3 making it less attractive to that same demographic.

If I were MS I'd try and fool the core into thinking Kinect 2 will be appeal to them, like they did last time. At least until the price drops into casual range.

MikeMyers4080d ago (Edited 4080d ago )

It might work on the Xbox 360 but limited since the Xbox 360 does not support USB 3.0

I would hope the new Xbox does not require this new Kinect. All that would do is inflate the cost. I understand that if it is in every system it will be much more likely to be supported by game developers but I'm still not convinced it has that much use in gaming.

"Frame rate up from 15fps to 30fps"

It only did 15fps? That's not very good.

4080d ago
Godmars2904080d ago

As part of a bundle I can't see it contributing more than $40-$50 to overall price. Then there will likely be leasing deals through cable/internet providers which will make it seem cheap to general consumers. Probably a lot of gamers too.

AngelicIceDiamond4080d ago (Edited 4080d ago )

That pretty much squashes the rumor about Kinect having to be plugged in for the console to function properly.

And if that's the case what if the thing breaks? Then you have to shell out an extra 100$, these rumors are stupid...

@Knight My bad these rumors are spinning completely outta control now. Even got me spinning in circles.

DragonKnight4080d ago

A rumour squashes another rumour?

SDF Repellent4080d ago

Another thing might be the chance of cross platforms play befweene the nextbox and pc. The x360 controller is alreadyq the standard for gamepad on the PC, now by making the Kinect a standard on PC, cross platform games like Battlefields can integrate this concept of controller and motion and voice control. If cross platform gaming is a reality with both Xbox and Games for Windows and Xbox Live tieing it together, that might be a killer feature for MS next gen.

DragonKnight4080d ago

"Another thing might be the chance of cross platforms play befweene the nextbox and pc."

That'll never happen. Microsoft will never be that open. They had every opportunity to do so this gen and chose not to. PS3 already has a couple of cross-platform games so expect more from the PS4.

"The x360 controller is alreadyq the standard for gamepad on the PC."

Says you. There is no standard.

"now by making the Kinect a standard on PC."

Also not gonna happen.

"If cross platform gaming is a reality with both Xbox and Games for Windows and Xbox Live tieing it together, that might be a killer feature for MS next gen."

Except that that's a fantasy that will never happen because it requires Microsoft giving up control and no one likes GFWL. Be realistic.

maniacmayhem4080d ago

@Dragon

"PS3 already has a couple of cross-platform games so expect more from the PS4."

360 has a couple of cross-platform games too. And with MS trying to integrate all their devices and OS I would think they might try more for cross play for the next Xbox.

"Says you. There is no standard."

A lot of PC games, especially ports from consoles on Steam use and support the 360 controller as default. So it could be considered standard.

"Be realistic."

How about trying to be optimistic. He's not saying this is written in stone he's just giving his thoughts on the topic.

JamieL4079d ago

@ maniacmayham
You are trying to reason with a troll. He obvious doesn't do any research, or have any clue what he's talking about. FF11 on the 360 even let you play with the 6 PS2 users who bought the game as well as the PC players. There are more than that, Shadowrun, even though it sucked did as well. I also think that the 360 controller is the standard gamepad for PC for the same reason you stated. You could make a full time job of tracking this guy and removing his foot from his mouth, but it's just not worth it. Let him live in his Sony run PS dream world, he's not hurting anyone.
I do have to admit it's strange such a blatent troll has so many bubbles, weird.

hazardman4080d ago

Not really, they can still have a sku that's not bundled with Kinect. They just have to make sure that all skus have large hard drives. Which is far more important to devs than kinect.

GadgetGooch4080d ago

:D I know what you mean but it's always the same when new hardware is on the horizon and I don't think it will ever change, There's got to be an element of truth within it all somewhere :)

Good_Guy_Jamal4080d ago

So it's gonna be sold separate from the main console? All these conflicting leaks.
I'm not going to believe anything I read about kinect 2.0 because I fell for the project natal hype and got burned pretty badly!

TheFallenAngel4080d ago

Man everybody did. They swore that milo was real and stuff like that. When my brother first got it, we were all excited but we got bored with it pretty quick. Same way with PS move, I got bored of it. I prefer the good old controller.

StrongMan4080d ago

Tell me about it. I'm still waiting to be able to scan my skateboard and other objects with Kinect and use it in game like MS promised. And what about MS promising 4 people can play Kinect at once? Now the leak is saying 6 players, yeah right. MS has made a reputation for over promising and under delivering and I won't fall for it again.

die_fiend4080d ago

I agree kinect is probably bull, wouldn't know tho cos I'm not a sucker. However, you're saying u won't fall for it again? U do realise MS aren't saying these things right? It's a rumour

Lvl_up_gamer4080d ago (Edited 4080d ago )

So much ignorance.

If you look at the video where you are getting the whole scanning of the skateboard feature, you will see in the bottom right hand corner @ 0:03 clearly saying:

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

"Product Vision: Actual features and functionality may vary."

It's called a disclaimer. The video is just a product vision that MS had for kinect.

Please show me where MS promised to be able to scan a skateboard?

Also, you clearly don't own a kinect or have used one let alone know what games are out there for kinect.

There is a FREE XBLA title called Kinect Fun Labs googly eyes.

http://www.youtube.com/watc...
http://www.youtube.com/watc...
http://www.youtube.com/watc...
http://www.youtube.com/resu...

You will notice you can scan ANY object and manipulate it within the game. So even though MS DIDN'T promise that so called scanning a skateboard feature, they DID produce a game where they live up to the scanning of an object and using it within a game...yes, even a skateboard.

As for playing 4 players at once. Ubisoft's Just Dance 3 DOES allow up to 4 players at once.

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

So there you have it Strongman, your ignorance has been pointed out. So although MS DIDN'T promise anything, they have delivered on every negative aspect you were just complaining about.

So it would appear that MS DID live up to their expectations on what KINECT is capable of doing, you're just too ignorant to know better and would rather spread your BS FUD like usual.

You have been marked for trolling. Again, like usual.

10 Biggest Xbox Mistakes of All Time (So Far)

The Xbox brand has done a lot of good over the years, but their various blunders are pretty wild to look back on in their magnitude.

culturedvultures.com
piroh8d ago (Edited 8d ago )

Ironically number 9 can save them at this point (releasing games on multiple platforms)

ChasterMies7d ago

By “save them” you mean make more profit for Microsoft. Xbox will still be a dying hardware platform.

OtterX7d ago

You could add the naming scheme for the consoles, it just confuses customers. I know they wanted to avoid traditional numbering bc it would always be lower than their competitor, but this whole 360 then One then Series thing is confusing af. Imagine a Soccer Mom trying to figure this stuff out. I still mistakenly call the Series X the One from time to time on accident.

RNTody7d ago

Don't forget about the Xbox One, Xbox One X and Xbox Series X! Good luck to Soccer moms around the world.

S2Killinit7d ago (Edited 7d ago )

They did that on purpose to confuse and direct attention away from the generational numbering.

MS doesn’t like reminding people that they joined the industry after others had already been involved in gaming.

For instance, they called the xbox “360” to combat PlayStation “3” because they wanted to seem like “more” than “3”, so instead of xbox 2, they opted for xbox 360. Also this had the additional benefit of selling consoles to uninformed parents who might purchase a “360” instead of a “3” by mistake, or because they thought 360 was more than 3. Kind of a disingenuous move.

They have been continuing with their confusing naming patterns for pretty much the same reasons. Frankly, it fits with who and what they are as a brand.

FinalFantasyFanatic6d ago

I can understand their reasoning, but whoever came up with that naming scheme should be fired, bad naming schemes have killed consoles (I'm pretty sure it was the major reason for the downfall of the WiiU). They should have had unqiue names like Nintendo and Sega have had for their consoles, far less confusing for the consumer.

rob-GP3d ago

@FinalFantasyFanatic "They should have had unqiue names like Nintendo..."

lol, you mean:

NES, SNES
GameBoy, GameBoy Advanced, GameBoy Colour, GameBoy SP
DS, DSi, DSXL
3DS, 3DS XL, New 3DS, New 3DS XL
Wii, Wii U
Switch, Switch OLED

Phil Spencer is the worst that has happened to Xbox.
They built a respectable brand up to Xbox one. Then this guy took over and things became a joke

Reaper22_7d ago

He still has his job. Something you can't say about Jim Ryan.

Cacabunga7d ago

Both bad execs. One is on job and one thankfully retired.

FinalFantasyFanatic6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

I didn't like either person, both people damaged their respective brands and produced worse outcomes, but Phil did save the Xbox brand from being retired by Microsoft. Although in hindsight, he should have just let it die, rather than languish in limbo like it is now.

Rainbowcookie5d ago

Yeah but the one that was "bad" didn't even affect sales.

bunt-custardly7d ago

Phil Spencer was also on the team back when 360 was around, alongside Shane Kim, Peter Moore etc. I think the damage that did the most harm was the Don Mattrick "Always Online" console (ahead of its time basically). They handed Sony and Nintendo a free-pass when that was revealed. It went downhill from there. Then the corporate machine went into full swing to try and recover. They have to a degree as a games company for the masses, and less so for the core gamer. Outside USA, the Xbox brand does not sell as well as Japanese based consoles (citation needed).

Cacabunga7d ago

Want a decision maker. The always online and TV plans was a disaster yes, but they caught up by announcing 1st party games that gamers actually kept the hype going.. until this moron took over and introduced the PC day one release.. e all know where that ended..

S2Killinit7d ago

I dont think they were ever a respectable brand, not since the beginning, when their goal was never to be involved and share in the gaming space. I think the OG xbox was an exception because MS as a brand was still getting its foot in and so the people behind that were people of the gaming industry.

FinalFantasyFanatic6d ago

The 360 was the brand in its prime though, everything went downhill towards the end of that generation. Its staple games like Halo, Forza and Gears are what kept the console relevant and afloat for so long.

MaximusPrime_7d ago

Really good video.

I remember the days with RRoD was big news on here, N4G.

Microsoft had it turbulence number of years.

Looking at the success of Sea of Thieves despite being 6 years old, time to release Halo, Forza horizon 4 & 5 on PS5. It'll help their revenue

shinoff21837d ago (Edited 7d ago )

2 of the 4 games they did already sold really well. So it's definitely going down. Idk about halo or forza but I feel those studios they've bought in the last 5 years, their coming

ChasterMies7d ago

I found this video painful to watch. Can someone list them out?

Top 10 for me from are:
1. 2013 reveal presentation
2. Bundling Kinect 2 with Xbox One
3. RRoD or why rushing to market with hardware is always a bad idea.
4. Buying studios only to close them.
5. Ads on the Home Screen
6. Letting Halo die.
7. Letting Geard of War die.
8. Every console name
9. Charging for Xbox Live on Xbox 360 when Sony let PS3 players play online for free.
10. Cancelling release of OG Xbox games after the Xbox 360 launched.

Why all the hate? Im actually excited about this! Always wanted this kind of immersion, and an AI companion with me all the time helping me out knowing the status of my skills/inventory/progress and giving me tips on the best approach or how to craft something specific is game changing for the industry.

Hate all you want about AI, but this is just the start and I can see the potential already. You wont be complaining in the next 5-10 years about this, but rather complain if a game hasn’t implemented it.

MrDead11d ago

Yes we can't wait for the work of others to be used without the need to pay them so that MS can profit even more from the people they fire.

I_am_Batman11d ago (Edited 11d ago )

There is no chance I'd ever use something like this, especially if it's not part of the core game design, but a layer on top of it. It's way too much handholding. Many games already feel like busy work, because they don't let the player figure things out on their own. Having a real-time interactive guide defeats the purpose of playing the game in the first place in my opinion.

If this were to become the standard like you predict, we'll see more and more video games get away with bad design, because people will just be used to ask for help from the AI companion anyway.

Number1TailzFan11d ago

Well Nintendo don't need this with some of their games these days, with invincible characters, items, easy bosses etc.. they do the hand holding built in
