I'm sure the number of players will drastically drop when the fees are introduced, but I'm positive people will come back with 2.0 just to see how much it changed if at all.
I agree with gill on this one Final Fantasy 14 was free for a year and look at all the games that are or have switched to a free to play business model games such as fallen earth or WoW with it's free to play up to lvl 20 or age of conan or the upcoming free to play model of DCUO free to play models make it easier for the public to at least experience the game in its glory without having to take out the credit card for the privilege. most people think that free to play for a game or games is a sign that the MMO is on it's last leg, but that's not the case if not for free to play games we wouldn't have the gems like guild wars for us to spend our times on! end of rant lol
Death of FFXIV? Wow great way to do some research there guys.
Yeah it's true subscription fees are coming back to the game however it seems the majority of the games community are willing to pay them. Those who aren't are all willing to come back after 2.0 and give the game another shot. I don't know exactly how that equals the death of the game.
One thing people need to understand is that no one is paying fees right now and if those people leave when fees starts SE doesn't lose a thing as they weren't paying in the first place. Basically more then half the population could leave when fees start and SE would still be making alot more money then they are now because no one is paying and when they relaunch the game as 2.0 alot of those players and plenty of new ones will come back.
