Engadget: Windows 7 review

Engadget:

"Oh, Windows. You inform and entertain us. You are inescapable, and your Start menu is full of items relevant to our productivity. You move us. Sort of. To be honest, we're not sure what sort of state this fair planet of ours would be in without the ruggedly functional operating systems the folks at Redmond have handed to us over the years, and while Windows Vista might have proved that Microsoft wasn't invincible, it did nothing to demonstrate that Windows as an idea -- and for most, a necessity -- was at all in jeopardy."

Haters suck, and MS owns.
The vision of MS created so many ICT jobs in the world, they deserve nothing but praise.

The ICT world would have been a shadow of what it currently is without MS their involvement.

Ghoul5404d ago

if there is a company that did serious damage to the IT industry and cost thousands of peoples theyre jobs (non ms workers) because ms boughtt destroyed or simply stole theyre business.

time to learn something about the it history my friend. If there is one to profit from MS its MS themself NOONE else.

fact not opinion

Pizzagaki5404d ago (Edited 5404d ago )

pffft, collateral damage, MS created 1000 x as much jobs.
Like i said, they are responsible for almost the entire ICT sector.

It may be a fact, but the fact that MS created more jobs then destroyed them, outweighs your little example.

Thats nice, are they paying you? No? Didn't think so....

SnuggleBandit5404d ago

i disagree...if microsoft didn't monoploize the industry like it did, things would be a lot better and we would see tech being pushed farther and faster. People really have two options, pay microsoft for their (industry standard) software or buy overpriced and often software incompatible macs.

WOW
looks like they only changed the name from VISTA to 7
now im talking about the look

but as long as the working part gose
i have to try it out first

Nitrowolf25404d ago

i like how 7 is running. I was on XP for a while and went to window 7 beta. the only issue i had (becuase ts beta) is that i would update and after the update my computer is buggy. i downgraded to Vista Lite, its like vista but with XP performance

Kakkoii5404d ago

Obviously they aren't going to radically change the layout. That was one of the main reasons that made Vista adoption rate so poor. Lot's of people didn't like the idea of a whole new change to an interface they had become comfortable with over the years. If they did that again with 7, that would be disastrous. The only real visual change is the Aero bar at the bottom, which is a nice improvement.

On the performance/stability side, a lot has been optimized and improved. A lot of things that will help games run faster on multi-core machines too.

mantasis5404d ago

I installed this on my Mac...windows still pales in comparison to the mac OSX...I like the window resizing thing though, is cool :)

Kakkoii5404d ago

How exactly does it pale in comparison? What exactly about Mac's GUI is more efficient or better? Not being able to right click? Oh yeah, that's great...

Elven65404d ago

Why so negative N4G commenter's?? The review is generally positive about Windows 7.

cond3m3r5404d ago

I've had bad experience with Microsoft...in jus about every item ive bought with their brand on it...vista is a slug...360 has died...mouses broke...webcam sucks monkeys...but window 7 is pretty good (at least the RC versions are)..makes me feel like its XP with a lil vista style to it. It's well worth the upgrade.

Kakkoii5404d ago (Edited 5404d ago )

Yeah same, Windows 7 feels like an acceptable successor to XP.

I've been using the same stock Microsoft laser mouse for about 7 years now, works great.

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2's Scope Was Impacted by Xbox Series S Limitations

Wccf tech writes: "Kingdom Come Deliverance 2's scope was impacted by the Xbox Series S hardware limitations, as developers could only make a game that was 25% bigger than its predecessor."

This is the issue with things like this

Xbox Series X is apparently to MS the worlds most powerful console

However the Series S is obviously a limitation because it’s underpowered and developers have to go for parity.

So what’s the point of the world’s most powerful console if you are holding third party developers back? They aren’t going to push themselves if they have to think about the weakest console.

The issue wouldn’t be as bad if it was just Xbox but you are also affecting the PS version aswell

I think developers need to start just taking advantage of a console and if one of them can’t do X Y and Z then f*** them…why should the others suffer. What’s MS going to do? The bigger the franchise the least chance MS are going to tell them to f*** off. Baulders Gate 3 seemed to have stood their ground and suddenly their “strict” parity rule didn’t really matter. We suddenly got super optimisation efforts for the Series S that got things sorted.

I agree, and the sad part is use normal folk saw it the second they announced their plans.

More info from the author of the article, I think: https://www.reddit.com/r/ki...

Quote:
"1) I was told this info from the producer of the game Martin Klíma.
2) He specifically said the game will have only one mode.
3) And this mode is 4K 30 on PS5/XSX and 1440p 30 on XSS.
4) He said that the game is already running north of the 30 FPS cap so the performance should be stable on launch, much better than KCD1.
5) The limitation was XSS because of the 10GB memory. He said that's why they wanted to make the game 25% larger.
6) Speculation on my part: the output resolution is probably upscaled and the reason why there won't be a 60 FPS mode is because it'll most likely be very CPU heavy, like Dragon's Dogma 2 for example."

Doesn't seem like they're adding a 40fps mode on PS5/Series X for launch even if they can handle it.

Sgt_Slaughter1h ago

I'd much rather have 1440p/60fps or even 45fps. Having just one, even with the Series S in mind, is disappointing.

franwex9m ago(Edited 6m ago)

Remember when xbots were adamant that the series s won’t hold back the gen?

Microsoft just needs to let go of the mandatory parity. Who cares if your grandma doesn’t understand that a game cannot be played on the S. It’s not like it she can buy you a physical game for it anyway. Before buying the game put up a notice that it only works on series X. If you’re buying for a friend-allow for a refund.

Bam. Everyone is happy. Most series s owners are for casuals that want Game Pass anyway and most likely don’t purchase most games.

If the developers want it to run on S, let them figure it out.
