Cyberpunk 2077 is "a different game" after console update, says CDPR dev

This should quell some of the concerns about Cyberpunk 2077 console performance.

waverider1271d ago

So, why no consoles review?????

Tedakin1271d ago

I"m thinking the day 1 update isnt out yet so they don't want the console versions reviewed until then.

UltraNova1270d ago

Yes, the game right now, the version burned on disc and headed to retail, must be unplayable.

I will not touch it for at least 3-6 more months, it will be a different game by then.

ArchangelMike1271d ago (Edited 1271d ago )

Probably because they didn't want to give the unpatched code to reviewers? Plus, I can't imagine this game running all that well on PS4 & X1, so it makes sense from a PR point of view to send codes of the PC version.

porkChop1271d ago

They gave the unpatched PC code to reviewers, so what difference does it make?

Because there's a 45 GB difference between what's on disk and after the day 1 patch. Basically a completely different version of the game. Doesn't make much difference to me, but kinda sucks for anyone with slow internet, or who doesn't like to connect their consoles. The game was shipped unfinished and they ran out of time. This is CDPR though, so I expect they'll be patching it constantly and giving free DLC over the next months, like they did with Witcher 3. Just looked it up, I think they patched it 23 times.

CrimsonWing691271d ago

Because they won’t review well lowering that good ol’ meta score.

RazzerRedux1271d ago

Each platform has its own metacritic score.

Such as....
https://www.metacritic.com/...

CrimsonWing691271d ago

@Razz

Yea I don’t think they’ll want a 90 on PC and 70 on consoles

RazzerRedux1271d ago

I seriously doubt there will be that much of a spread. Maybe a couple of points.

MADGameR1271d ago

Because the console versions are a complete mess. So they are damage controlling by rushing out the patch. Trust me its BAD

CrimsonWing691271d ago

That's the thing, most of the 7's are in part due to how buggy the game is. I think if consoles ran worse you'd be seeing more 7's. Hell, some reviews were actually saying to wait until patches are out that fixes all the bugs.

shauzy1271d ago

I played 7 hours on the ps5, and its really average performance wise, its 1080p, with no performance or quality options, sure its 60fps mostly with occasional fps drops, i can see the textures load on cars, human models i think are less than 1080 when they're average distance far, the game also crashed 2 times, i was playing on patches 1.01 and 1.02, it still needs an update otherwise people will be furious about it

StoneyYoshi1271d ago (Edited 1271d ago )

Might wanna share PSN ID so people can see if you are telling the truth. Also considering you said there isn't a choice for quality or perfomance throws a red flag since its been shown to have that option.

If the day one patch was significant enough that it makes that much difference, then it should have been ready for reviewers. CDPR pulled the same crap with TW3 at launch, after talking a bunch of smack about Bethesda. They should not get a free pass on this because they now have a track record of releasing games unfinished.

alextdarling1271d ago

I get where you're coming from but the whole reason the game was delayed (this time) was for this Day 1 patch.

They have every right to have an unfinished product before launch, because its not launched!

russo1211271d ago

@alex

"...They have every right to have an unfinished product before launch, because its not launched!"

I must correct you, IMO they don't have the right nor the ethics to sell an unfinished product, that's the shady practices everyone is doing to release something even if broken and then patch it up. Most of us don't expect to have Day 1 patch included in DB disks at retail. Day 1 patch means you'll need to download the patch to make a working product. So, they're selling a broken or different game at retail, at least for consoles.

I_am_Batman1271d ago

Going gold usually meant the game is finished. Patches should be a last resort to fix bugs that weren't found in QA. Day one patches that are almost the size of the full game are absurd and devalue the physical release of the game.

1271d ago
DragonWarrior191271d ago

If the game is in that bad shape then they should have delayed it again and work the patch in. It's inexcusable to release a completely broken game and saying "it fixed with a patch" is not justification. CPR only allowing their footage instead of review captured footage and no console version reviews is extremely sketchy. The game was clearly not ready for release.

RaiderNation1271d ago

@I_am_Batman

Incorrect! Going gold does not mean the game is finished. Going gold means that all of the data that is going onto the actual disc is done. However that doesn't mean the game itself if finished.

I_am_Batman1271d ago (Edited 1271d ago )

@RaiderNation:
The Gold master isn't an arbitrary step that can be done anywhere in the dev cycle. It is the end goal and it should come after all known bugs are fixed and the game hits the intended performance target. Otherwise teams could go gold right after reaching alpha.

The ability to patch games after launch should not be used as an excuse to sell sell a subpar product with the promise of fixing it later. In the worst cases this could relegate the physical release of a game to a glorified early access version.

PrinterMan1270d ago

Bull crap. That's a LAME ASS excuse.

Their games are so massive in scale though, it is always going to have bugs. Talking smack about Bethesda is unacceptable though, both are the same type of games in terms of scale.

Mrxboxman1271d ago

Endless complaining humans. Don't you people get tired of yourselves. The game is very ambitious. This team has a great track record. Either buy it or don't, but as a consumer, we have 2 options.. Advocate for a delay or accept a patch day 1. I choose the latter.... Especially over whining like children.

pingthing1271d ago

Because you only get one first impression?

DaCajun1271d ago

Yes, that's what a FIRST impression is for us in this reality. You can have a second, third, or fourth impressions but you technically can only have one "first impression" of someone or something.

Unless somehow you can bend space and time or maybe you have alzheimers then sure you can have first impressions over and over all day everyday if you please.

RebelWAC1271d ago

I’ll be playing on pc at first but no console review and not being able to show your own review footage doesn’t sit well with me but it still, bugs can be fixed, the core experience cannot.

I’ve coped and managed through games like skyrim, fallout 3 through 4, gta 5 online, rdr 2, Witcher 3, battlefield games and many more that ended up being revolutionary staples in said genre so this doesn’t worry me too much but “that’s just one mans take on the situation..” *Yong voice

ClayRules20121271d ago

I hear you. I hope you’ll get a great and wonderful gaming experience when you play on PC!

For myself, I can honestly say, games like TW3 (regardless of it’s day 1 patch) and months of patches later, the overall experience I had with the game on release date to when I finished it wasn’t honestly a buggy buggy mess. I remember one issue I did have was whistling for Roach to come near me, only to hop on him and than he’d disappear and Geralt would be sitting (what looked like) on air lol. This happened 5 different times, and was rather funny than game breaking or anything.

There were little issues with transitions between cutscenes to gameplay in moments, but overall it didn’t hinder my experience and wasn’t as bad as what some other people had reported on their ends.

I’m curious to see how it’ll perform on the older consoles.

"Cyberpunk 2077 got updated last night, fixing many of the engine quirks I had. Also NVIDIA released drivers specifically for it. "

https://twitter.com/JezCord...

phoenixwing1271d ago

Hopefully those drivers also are for the 2070 super and not just the 3000 series cards

RazzerRedux1271d ago

Jez is running a 2070 so I'd say so.

AnnaDea1271d ago (Edited 1271d ago )

20 fps~ at 1080p Ray Tracing ultra settings on a 2070 laptop gpu without DLSS2.

This game seems like it's so optimized like hell.

RazzerRedux1271d ago (Edited 1271d ago )

He is a GPU generation behind to be running this game on RT Ultra. Obviously he just wanted to take a screen shot of the ray tracing.

AnnaDea1271d ago

"He is a GPU generation behind to be running this game on RT Ultra. Obviously he just wanted to take a screen shot of the ray tracing."

Of course.

If he had DLSS2 on he would be in the 40fps area or so. If he goes down one step or two to high or medium setting he would be able to play the game with a high framerate.

That's really good that older card can get so much out of this game.

RazzerRedux1270d ago

Yeah, I'm impressed. Hopefully I'll be able to bump up the resolution a bit on my 2080 Super. I'll turn on RT for some screen shots like Jez, but I need that 60fps.

Cyberpunk 2077 Director On 95% Positive Steam Rating: "Never Thought I'd See It"

Cyberpunk 2077 has come a long way from being one of the worst games on the planet to being one of the best ones.

DustMan17d ago

I shelved it after a few hours in game at launch, glad I didn't refund it. One of the few games I've actually completed in the last year, and after finishing the campaigns I wanted to just jump back in from the start. They pulled a No Mans Sky and finished one of the best FPS in the last few years.

Games That Were Bad on Release, But Are Now Great

BLG writes, "Some of the most popular games have had a rough start, with some of them being downright unplayable.

Despite that, developers have managed to turn it around for them and make their game worth playing. Here are some games that had a rough start but were pretty great."

Good list..hoped to see Street Fighter 5 there..and it is.

Vits28d ago (Edited 28d ago )

Sea of Thieves... I'm not disagreeing that the game has improved in terms of content. But I feel that the most significant change between now and its release is actually the public perception. Nowadays, most people are aware that the game is a multiplayer PvP-focused experience first and foremost, and not "Black Flag made by Rare". Consequently, people dismissing the whole experience because the single-player aspect is lacking or the story is plain are much less common.

darthv7228d ago

Several years ago, i submitted an idea to Rare that would change up the mechanics of battling opponents in the game. whereby if you died in battle, you turned into a skeleton warrior and had to fight your way back to the land of the living. It was an interesting twist on respawning and would allow the player to experience both sides of a battle.

I keep hoping to see something like that get added to the game.

Kaii28d ago

They consider FO 76 & ME Andromeda to be great now 🤭

anast28d ago

Every game in the last 2 decades...

INMATEofARKHAM28d ago

It's sad that this quick retort is more often than not true... The industry's acceptance of release and patch has gone too far.

gunnerforlife28d ago

Days gone! By the end of the game I couldn't drop it down! I went around so many hours killing zombies! It was addictive by the end.

S2Killinit28d ago

That game was just plain good game. It didnt improve, it was just good.

gunnerforlife27d ago

I don't know, I got it abit late, and struggled for a few days, and then all of a sudden it just got good!!
