Eurogamer's game of the year 2019 is Outer Wilds

Eurogamer writes: This was a great year for games that took you places but kept you grounded, grateful for the ground beneath you - and none did that better than Mobius Digital's bewitching space oddity, Outer Wilds: a pocket universe, perfect for exploration. Happy new year to you and yours, and we'll see you on the other side. -Oli

I have to say, it probably is mine as well. Not much to criticise about the game to be honest!

Few games make my jaw drop in disbelief. This was one of them.

Good game that i liked, but it would have to be a weak year for this to be GOTY.

Sciurus_vulgaris1600d ago

Compared to last year no games reviewed as well God of War 4 or Red Dead Redemption 2.

I dunno, this game was actually mindblowing.

I had my mind blown in a way that I've never had since I was really small (because at that age you're fully immersed in everything).

good you enjoyed it that much. I liked it for sure, maybe not as much as guys like yourself. I don't get too involved in comparisons, but i prefered fallout 4.

@cgc83
fair enough, just goes to show how subjective all of this is :)

LucasRuinedChildhood1600d ago (Edited 1600d ago )

It's always nice to see innovation rewarded and this game deserves more recognition. Congrats to Mobius Digital and congrats to Eurogamer for having the balls to pick an adventure/puzzle game as GOTY. A lot of people probably wanted them to pick an AAA game but besides Death Stranding, most AAA games this year didn't really do anything new.

I never got around to mass effect - I’m skeptical that it would hold up if I were to try it now

Furesis24d ago

I would say it does. The combat is a bit shit for todays standards but everything else is great.

It's worth a play through today.

Outer Wilds is a great game, but it runs like crap on the Series S. Muddy, low resolution and a bad framerate. Definitely deserves/needs an update.

LucasRuinedChildhood515d ago (Edited 515d ago )

They released an updated version a few months ago on PS5 and Series X | S.

It now seems to be a locked 60fps on the S. https://youtu.be/_ejE06fIh9...

Cool. Thanks for the info.
I mainly game on PC, but I travel a lot with my Series S.

Si-Fly515d ago

You should get a Steam Deck, way better to travel with lol

MadLad515d ago

I actually have a Steam Deck, which I do take with me on planes and all that, but I'm usually gone for at least a few days, so I like something that I can just hook up at the hotel and not worry about battery life.

I wish these subscription services would give more notice on this because I really wanted to play Scarlett nexus but just started elden ring. I guess I will have to pause Elden Ring and come back after I finish Scarlet Nexus
